Types of Quinoa

How Long Does Dry Quinoa Last?

When dry and stored properly it will last 2-3 years from the date it was produced. There should be a “best by” date on the packaging. Follow the “best by” date because you don’t know how long it was on the shelf before purchasing it.

How Long Does Cooked Quinoa Last?

Freezer: Allow cooked quinoa to cool to room temperature. Transfer it to a freezer-safe container. It will last for 2-3 months. After that, it will lose some of its texture and quality.

How long Does Cooked Quinoa Last in the Fridge?

When cooked and stored properly in an airtight container it will last for 5 to 7 days in the fridge.

How to Store Dry/Uncooked Quinoa

Step 1: Keep it dry! You don’t want your quinoa to come in contact with water.

Step 2: Transfer to an airtight container or store in its packaging. However, I recommend transferring it to an airtight container to keep the seeds dry and sealed.

Step 3: Store quinoa in a cool dark place like your pantry or find a place that has a cool and consistent temperature.

How to Store Cooked

Step 1: Allow the cooked quinoa to cool to room temperature.

Step 2: Transfer to an airtight container.

Expert Tip: Do not leave cooked quinoa out for more than 2 hours! This can cause bacteria to form.

How to Freeze Cooked Quinoa

Step 1: Prepare according to package directions.

Step 2: Allow it to cool to room temperature

Step 3: Transfer to a freezer-safe container or individual freezer bags. You may want to divide it into individual serving sizes. Label with the date and contents.

Step 4: Place in freezer, and keep for no longer than 3 months.

How to Reheat Cooked Quinoa

From the Fridge: Place quinoa in a glass container and add a tablespoon of water. Put it in the microwave covered with a paper towel. Heat on high until warmed through. The added moisture will bring it back to life.

From the Freezer: Transfer the frozen quinoa to the refrigerator to defrost overnight. If needed, add a bit of water, and place in the microwave in a glass container with a loosely fitted lid or towel. Heat on high until the desired temperature is reached.
